Are virtual Color Harmony Consultations available?
Often asked about virtual consultations yet nothing replaces or is as accurate as a full comprehensive in person consultation in the studio which includes full spectrum lighting, calibrated drapes in a controlled environment with a consultant as a guide so YOU can see and understand as color tones most harmonious with the authentic YOU are revealed.
It is exciting, FUN, and many say life changing. As a student of color harmony for over 4 decades myself to ensure accuracy and integrity the initial consultation MUST be in person.
I was analyzed in a different system - will my season be different (in 12 Tones)?
Many earlier personal color systems used a simple 4 seasons color model (some now up to 16 categories) yet after decades of learning and experiencing various systems and processes believe the 12-tone system is most aligned with nature, accurate, and consistent. Scientists utilize the Munsell color system (12 Tones basis) for soil and plant identification.
Because most people have a neutral undertone (neither warm or cool), the 4-season process identified warm and cool only (not neutral which is in between) is why many who experienced 4 seasons felt was helpful yet not as accurate and consistent (yet a great start) and did not serve them as well as the 12 Tone model.
12 Tone system is comprehensive, complete, accurate, and utilizes the entire 3D Munsell model of color so results are far more accurate and representative. During the consultation we will discuss in more detail, so you have a deeper understanding.

Will my color tone change over time?
Our personal color tone is as individual as we are and is determined by our pigmentation; color forming chemical matter in our bodies, which uniquely combines to give us our under tone.
Hormones can affect this chemical matter, even some medication can alter their concentrations in our bodies. Contrary to popular advice it is unnecessary to undertake color analysis multiple times. It is however advisable if at any stage you begin to feel uncomfortable in your colors tone, especially after major life changes such as
menopause or illness, that you have a re-check with your consultant to make sure that your colors are still suitable at that stage of life.
After decades of “living” with our personal “undertone” may sometimes ‘soften’ i.e., hair becomes grey, and skin thins and becomes paler. This is a natural, and beautiful process. Sometimes, but not always, “softer” versions of colors are preferred.
Why 12 Tones?
There is an infinite number of tones or color groupings possible in the natural realm of color. Twelve tonal groups easily cover the full range of color changes while still distinguishable by the human eye.
12 Tones is a “natural order color system”—this color order is consistent with the visible spectrum which is most recognizable in the form of a rainbow. In this natural order, color moves from cool to warm, and from warm to cool.
Within each seasonal category, two others have been established to allow for the many beautiful tones that fall into the neutral area between the seasons. They also beautifully encompass the full range of tones found in all races and nationalities.
Accurate interpretation of color theory, the Munsell color system, and the science behind human vision and the brains interpretation of color harmony has resulted in the entire realm of color being divided into 12 distinguishable tones. Just as music has 12 distinguishable tones, so does color. Three-quarters (3/4) of the population harmonize at ‘neutral’ (warm/cool) mixtures of colors.
These 12 follow the true movement of the seasonal color changes found in nature (all human beings coloring is a part of nature) and are clearly distinguishable as are the 12 tones in music. Within each of the 12 Tones “color” is unique to that Tone and each of our color groups are different and distinguishable from the others.
Is there more to color than just warm and cool?
YES, and YES! We have heard of the terms warm and cool when referring to color, yet 2/3 of all colors are neither warm nor cool? 12 Tones includes the Neutral hues.
